Description
Tiffany Studios, founded by Louis Comfort Tiffany in New York in the late 19th century, became one of America’s most famous decorative art ateliers. Known for groundbreaking Favrile glass, iridescent surfaces, and richly colored leaded glass lamps and windows, Tiffany Studios merged fine art, craft, and design. Tiffany developed Favrile glass around 1893, featuring shimmering metallic tones achieved through unique chemical and heat treatments. The studio’s botanically inspired lamp shades, nature‑themed vases, mosaics, and stained‑glass windows were showcased at international exhibitions, including the 1900 Paris Exposition. Tiffany Studios employed many talented artisans and designers, including significant contributions from women of the Tiffany Girls group. Despite closing in 1932, Tiffany Studios’ legacy lives on as a hallmark of American Art Nouveau and Gilded Age luxury, with original pieces coveted by museums and collectors worldwide.
