Bimini Art Glass

Bimini Art Glass was founded in 1923 in Vienna, Austria, by sculptor and designer Fritz Lampl. The studio quickly gained attention for its innovative lampworked borosilicate glass, shaped directly in the flame into delicate and expressive forms. During the Art Deco era, Bimini became known for its finely crafted mermaids, fish, dancers, nude figures, animals, and stylized vessels, each reflecting the elegance and imagination of modernist design.

Deeply influenced by the Viennese Secession and European modernist movements, Bimini’s artists emphasized flowing lines, poetic themes, and technical precision. The glass was often thin, brilliantly colored, and expertly balanced—an impressive achievement in flame-worked glass of the period.

In 1938, after the Nazi annexation of Austria, founder Fritz Lampl fled to England where he re‑established production under the name Orplid Glass. Though wartime pressures limited output, both the Vienna-era Bimini pieces (1923–1938) and later Orplid works remain highly collectible today.

Early Bimini Art Glass is prized for its craftsmanship, rarity, and historical significance, with many examples held in major museum and private collections. The studio’s influence continues to inspire modern lampworkers and collectors worldwide.
