Grabach, John
John R. Grabach (1886-1981) was an American painter and teacher associated with the Ashcan School and American Realism. A New Jersey native, Grabach studied at the Art Students League and the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Arts, where he later taught for many years. He is known for his poignant urban scenes and portraits, particularly during the Great Depression, conveying social awareness through sensitive and technically refined compositions. His work is held in the collections of the Newark Museum and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.
